A respected Longbeard war-general from the Vale of Thrain. He is father to Austri. He was one of the dwarves who vehemently opposed the union of the minstrel Finsur and his Dourhand lover, Fari.

After the Longbeard-Dourhand treaty that authorized the construction of the new obsidian forge in Thorin's Hall, Aurvangr began to grow discontent with the newfound peace between the tribes. He made clandestine agreements with a Dourhand family of armoursmiths to rekindle the hatred between the clans, for his own profit. The Wayfarers discovered his deception and brought him before the court at Thorin's Hall. Aurvangr was found guilty, and sentenced to live out the rest of his life in the dungeons below the hall.
